Downtown Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
When Jeff and Grace Cure’ set out to build their Hill Street home along Butcherknife Creek, they first created a set of guiding principles. The home must be environmentally friendly, be built with true craftsmanship in every detail, and be rooted in the rustic heritage of our mountain town. When I sat down and spoke with Jeff and Grace it was amazing how clear they were on their dream home from the outset. "When you look around this home and the surrounding botanic gardens, you know you’re part of something special as the execution of their vision has been done to perfection" says Darrin Fryer the listing agent.
Jeff has over 35 years of building experience and a love for fine woodworking. He felt indulged that he didn’t have to cut any corners when creating his own masterpiece. “It was a luxury to not have to deliver to a clients’ specific budget or an architects parameters. I wanted it done with authenticity. It’s a true Timberframe - the joinery has been created by hand with mortise and tennon type connections to maintain the integrity for this of this type of building style,” said Jeff.

The lengths that they have gone to meet their vision is simply impressive. “99% of the wood used in the home has been reclaimed. For example, the main posts are from 150 year old Rock Elm which was acquired from a dairy farm in Wisconsin and the beam work – all reclaimed 120 year old vertical grain Douglas fir. The kitchen cabinets and interior/exterior doors are grain matched, custom made from 110 year old Heinz vinegar Vats originating in New Jersey”. Fryer said “when you feel the sturdiness and weight of the doors, the uniqueness is clearly apparent - they unlike any doors you’ve every felt before".
